soccer in the lovely Presidio

Dear Commuters,
Today Emily and I kept it local for the morning.
We worked on reinventing her bedroom to look like a page from the Pottery Barn Teen Catalogue. Later, we had a snack of toast with with peanut butter and strawberry jam in the midmorning sunshine on our back porch.
We made our back porch a few weeks ago by getting rid of all the old dried out plants, sweeping the landing clean and adding a bright orange rug, and a low-to-the-ground bright orange lawn chair.
It's nice to sit out side and take a breather while the neighbor's part-pit dog looks up at us from below and from the other side of the fence with what I hope are sad and lonely eyes.
We finally got out of the house by noon and brought lunch and a soccer ball to Golden Gate park to practice ball a little bit. A toddler of 2 joined us for a bit while 3 birthday parties swirled around the edges of our playing area.
Caught the 28 at 2:10 to the Merchant Road Parking lot at the GGB. It was only a 5 minute walk to Fort Scott Field from there. We were the first to arrive!
Emily proudly report to Coach Dave: "I'm here and I'm ready to play!"

The Stars were really on today and even though the JCCSF team gave them a challenge, the Stars made a big win.
Emily got to play midfield the last 10 minutes of the game and really came alive! The pic is from about half way through.
What was really neat about the game was that the other team was also coed. Nice to have both genders out there. Here's a pic of the team getting ready for a throw - in.
Afterwards, we abandoned our plans to take the #28 straight to Stonestown and TJ's, since it was so laden with passengers that the driver was forced to pause 5 minutes at each stop just to rev up the engine to move on again.

Lucky for us to run into Allie and fam from FSKey at Underdogs on Irving Street. Tacos, and Sangria on Irving Street rounded out the day.

Herding Goats to the Cyclone

dear commuters,

yesterday was an adventuresome day. after work, was invited for a beer with a beer connoisseur couple touring from ohio: jen and jerry. they'd needed directions on how to get around on muni - to go to zietgiest, the toronado, sweet magnolias, beach chalet. I escorted them to the Toronado from the #22's stop on Haight at Fillmore where they insisted I join them for a beer. They kindly treated. I had the Drake 1500 - in honor of the Sped dept. at balboa. Jer had a version of a Black and Tan known as Chocolate and Rasberries. They showed me the pinkish colour at the bottom of the glass swirling under the weight of the opaque Guiness. Jer went on to order me a sampler of that pink brew. It's known as Limbeden's Frambois Ale - a unique Belgian drink served in a wine glass. What a great way to celebrate the 1st day of July!! They served me up a whole pint after my sample - but I only finished .5 as I had to get back to the ranch.
One more interesting tidbit. Jen and Jer live outside Akron on 26 acres of land = to 7 to 8 football fields. They raise male goats and Jen maintains 18 acres of lawn by power mowing it every week. Guys it was great to get to know ya and happy trails.
